Romeo And Mercutio

Last week, for my 'theatre to film' class, i had to review the film 'shakespeare in love'. the following is but a small paragraph from it. Hopefully the lecturer wont think me bad. Oh i dont care, And she is not too bad. cool enough is our lecturer.

Mercutio has an underlying fear of women, a frustration, a violent self-loathing, destructiveness. Romeo tells him to stop: he says "you're talking nonsense; it's just dreams, the children of idle practices." This scene encapsulates the Romeo/Mercutio relationship- what Mercutio is actually doing in this scene is wooing Romeo, only Romeo is unconscious of the fact, leading Mercutio to say that Romeo's 'bosom' is 'frozen' (line 101). Whether or not Mercutio is aware of it, the images he uses are of homosexual sex: he talks of 'open arses' and 'poppering pear's (i.e., because of its shape, the penis and scrotum) and the 'blind bow boy's butt shaft' (2.4.16). He has nothing positive to say about women - he only has to open his mouth about women and something nasty comes out. Romeo's unwitting rejection of Mercutio angers Mercutio and sets him off. When he realises Romeo doesn't understand what he's talking about, he first saves himself by being clever, then turns away, frustrated.

Hey Nice review.
well I wanted to answer your question, I did my BA in English and am finishing the MA in ESL, I will teach ESL to adults or where ever they will hire me! I hope to later on go for a PHD in Linguistics-but nothing is set in stone. I currently am a reading tutor and am a teachers assistant at a highschool... these jobs will be a stepping stone to something bigger and better paying...

Uglygirl, I've got something for you, a new blog just for you, called Hillbilly ritual. I shall go post it now. Enjoy!

hey l>t i couldnot access your hillbilly ritual. see naa whats wrong.( 'see naa' is an indian english term. in here 'naa'adds nothing to the verb see except some urgency. strange cos naa= No in most indian languages.)

I think you tried to look before it was done. Took me all damn morning & I still f---ed it up. I thot I put the photos in order and tried a new template. some of My ink colors don't work well. Anyway, you'll see. Leave a comment somewhere so I'll know you found it.

For instance, if we were in the same house & you were downstairs & I was busy upstairs and I heard you scream, I would say to someone,
"see naa what is wrong w/ uglygirl."
But, if you were laughing I would only say, "See what is wrong w/uglygirl" ??

PERFECTLY USED.
except naa tends to cajole. perhaps urgency was the wrong word. i tend to use wrong words. if i want you to do something i think you would rather not do, i'll say, do naa baba(baba meaning father but used hear in a very nuetral manner and could mean buddy too)

Left comment on your newest post.
is baba correct for me to refer to you or is there a better term of endearment meaning, young friend or my dear?

shona=gold; is a very very affectionate term, usually used on kids or ones own children. yaar=friend; is a hindi/urdu(sister languages of india) slang. suffixed after an yes or a no.and used in casual situation."did you get your salary yet?" "no yaar".
and for baba.... "tell naa did you get your salary yet?" (you a little bugged)..."no baba".
frankly i cant think of any more.

indians dont have regional language equivalent of words like darling, sweetheart honey, cos...well, lengthy explanation. will tell later.
